What is Ouya? It is a new video game console that will be running on an Android operating system. Ouya is going to be made as an open source technology that will be developer friendly.
Ouya began a Kickstarter campaign to see how many people were interested in the product. The creators of Ouya hoped to raise $950,000 in a 30 day period. I was shocked to find that they raised a million dollars in less than an hour, raised three million in two days, totaling $8,596,474 in the 30 days.
So what’s the big deal? Why is everyone so excited about this product? Ouya has had a big success because it is a new kind of video game console. It will challenge the traditional video game consoles in many ways. Ouya has an advantage in pricing, game storage, and the fact that it is developer friendly.
Ouya will cost a surprising $99! That is an incredibly affordable price, making it easy for anyone to buy. I think its price is something one needs to appreciate because so many big shot companies like the PlayStation are selling their systems for triple the amount of Ouya’s price.
Gamers often complain of the price of video games and, I agree with them who wants to spend $60 for just one game, only to find out it wasn’t even worth it. Ouya has also found a way to steer away from this issue. Ouya has stated that all games will have to offer some free gameplay time. This is great because it allows gamers to try out a game before they decide whether they want to buy it or not. Video games on Ouya will be cheaper because they will all be bought online, no disc will need to be purchased. Since all the games can be saved online or on the console, one doesn’t have to worry about misplacing the game or that it might get damaged.
The thing that separates Ouya from other video gaming companies is that it is developer friendly. This means that all developers will be able to create games for Ouya without any fees. This is a great ordeal because many developers were turning to mobile and social games. They were doing this because they had to get permission from companies of the Xbox, PlayStation, or Wii in order to develop a game for them, plus they have to pay fees as well.
So are you ready to buy your Ouya? I know I am! Ouya is to be released March 2013 if it is preordered, and it will be available in April 2013 in retail.
